Pantheon Perspective
The Challenge
To translate the unique lighting of the Pantheon oculus—where a single beam of light moves across the dome throughout the day—into a scroll-triggered interactive web experience.
The Concept & Philosophy
We bound a radial light gradient mask to the scroll progress. As the user moves down the page, the 'light beam' sweep illuminates different text blocks and featured media.
Chasing the Light
The Pantheon is a temple to light and geometry. By using a single circular oculus as the source of light, we create a strict focus hierarchy.
Design Principles
- Oculus Navigation: A circular ring sits fixed in the corner of the header, reacting as navigation items are hovered.
- Gold & Marble Details: Deep midnight umber backgrounds are cut by thin, razor-sharp gilded lines that divide editorial sections.
The Process
We crafted a custom Web Animations script linked to the window scroll value using the Motion library. The main circular oculus visual stays pinned while content slides underneath.
The Final Result
A highly immersive and memorable scroll experience that captures the passing of time and light, resulting in multiple interactive design features and features in creative tech blogs.
